There’s a new BarCamp in town, BarCamp NewsInnovation Philadelphia!

Organized by Sean Blanda, Jared Silfies and Brian James Kirk, BarCamp NewsInnovation will take place on Saturday April 25th at Temple University’s School of Journalism. It’s a ways off, but please register today so you can help these guys plan!

The news industry needs its own kite moment. It’s time to throw conventional wisdom to the wind and try something different. That’s why in the very city that Franklin conducted his kite experiment, the industry’s forward thinkers will have a meeting of the minds.

Here at BarCamp Philly headquarters we love a good surprise! Inspired by wordle.net, we decided to provide an alternate shirt the day of the event. Wordle is a great little web app for generating word clouds. You can submit a url, a paragraph of text, or any random assortment of words. If you take a close look at the shirt, you’ll see that the same words are used in the background pattern of this website. This assortment of words was collected by the BarCamp community in our google group! Many thanks to Kelani for taking the time to lay out the design. Also, thanks to our friend Arpit Mathur from CIM for animating the wordle for our interactive display in the 13th floor lobby.

Why are you attending BarCamp Philly?
Being part of the coworking community here in Philadelphia has been a blast. It has led me to many ridiculous events and has introduced me to some of the most amazing people. I hope to accomplish two things at BarCamp Philly — 1) Meet even more interesting and creative people and, 2) Share some of my knowledge and experience with those people that are willing to listen.

If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?
My discussions could go one of two ways. I would either lead a discussion on developing for the Android and other new-age smart phone platforms or it would be on the importance of privacy and security in this public information age.

Tell us one random fact about yourself.
When I started at Drexel University, my plan was to graduate with a business degree. That took a turn for the better when I was offered a job in network security and spent the next couple of years visiting Mexico, the UK, Poland, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Wales. After visiting all of those places, I still speak only one language, English.

• From 8:00 - 9:45am The schedule board will be available on the 8th floor. This is when folks should plan to fill in their sessions and choose where and when they would like to host them. This is also a time for networking and getting to know your fellow barcampers! Scheduling is first come first serve to be sure to get there early and get a spot!!! Feel free to collaborate with other barcampers at the schedule board and work together to keep session topics from overlapping. We have a limited number of rooms so be sure and plan accordingly. Check out what sessions have been suggested here!

• At 9:45 we’ll gather in the auditorium, room 806 for a quick Barcamp welcome!

• After the first session starts at 10:00 the schedule will remain on the 8th floor for the rest of the day. Feel free to add more sessions if you come up with any!

Why are you attending BarCamp Philly?
I’ve been planning on attending BarCamp Philly since it was a glimmer in JP and Roz’s eye. We’ve been coworking for a year and a half, we’ve had 2 Ignites, countless Juntos. It’s time for a Barcamp to feel what it’s like to be rocked by Philly.

If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?
It wouldn’t be about coworking, that’s for sure.

Before being involved in computers, I wanted to be a professional magician.
