Seth Horwitz, Community Consultant

seth2What do you do?
I’m a consultant in knowledge management, online collaboration and social capital. I’m working nowadays with the American Friends Service Committee (Quakers), helping peace and justice activists around the world collaborate.

I’m also a founding organizer of Philly NetSquared, which sponsors Net Tuesday, a monthly gathering of folks who resonate with the theme of using social tools for social change — from different perspectives: activists, techies, nonprofit staff, visionaries…

What do you wish you did?
I love my work, but I wish I had more time to pursue ideas that would take time and energy away from earning a living.

Have you ever been to a BarCamp before? If so, which one(s)?
Nope. First and long. (First time attendee, long time fan.)

If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?
I’d like to explore ways to help people choose the MOST APPROPRIATE communication tool or medium for each unique purpose.

Give us one interesting fact about yourself!
In a previous life as a Reference Librarian in the (pre-web) ’80’s, I created a social network at the Ridley Twp. Public Library where community members’ interests, passions and desires for connection were classified a la Dewey and interfiled into the card catalog (remember those?)
