I came into it not sure of what to expect. I had such a great time and learned so much! I can’t wait for the next one.
I was really, really impressed with how full the schedule was. This was my 1st BarCamp (actually, first ANY camp!), and I’m hooked.
I don’t know if there was anything I’d do differently…
I think that we have proved by the 170+ amazingly dedicated, open, involved and passionate participants that Philly could support a 2-day BarCamp. I feel like this would eliminate a few of the very minor issues with this 1st AMAZING BarCamp.
1. Lunch was tough to manage at an hour. If we had a 2day BarCamp we could extend lunch by 30minutes or even an hour. Some of us get stuck in slow service situations, etc…
2. Coffee on every floor! Hee Hee. This is just a request. A very unlikely one. Next barcamp I’ll be rocking the thermos.
3. Some spare Cat5 cables for use.
4. Gosh I’m really coming up with some lame shit here. Know why. BECAUSE BCPHILLY was just of the chain!!!

So here’s the shit that was awesome:
1. @stellargirl, @jtoto and all the other volunteers and the AWESOME SPONSORS. Can’t forget about ‘dem folks!
2. Aaron, Arpit, and the rest of the Comcast gang showing up, speaking up, and letting us know that Frank ain’t the only guy @comcast that cares. You guys were extremely engaging. Thx.
3. The elevator buttons @UArts.

5. The web and iphone versions of the schedule, and the guy that was tirelessly keeping them up to date!
6. The shirts of course.
7. Whitney Hess’ live tweeting Kung-Fu. I think I was able to attend 2 sessions at the same time at one point! Also, Whitney’s session on a topic I won’t mention. Top Secret Session 5! Shhhhh.
8. @ekivemark running his JackBe Mashup platform session again just for wittle ole’ me! You are great and modest about your developer skills. can’t wait to mash it up wiht JackBe.
9. The great walk to National Mechanics with what’s ur name from @IndyHall. Great fun walking those many blocks, and we got to here the 7pm bell from Independence Hall, I’ve never gotten to hear it ring. We talked about how Philly is mos’ def’ on the map for tech, social networking, general geekdom. I was talking about the WildBit guys, Beanstalk, ModalBox, Happy Cog, Wil Reynolds (SEO Guy supreme), etc. We is on it folks.
OK. Might rave a bit more later.
I’m so freakin’ excited to be a part of this Greater Philadelphia community we are establishing.

Honestly, other than the lunch crush (releasing all of the hounds for lunch at once overwhelmed the elevators), I really don’t have anything bad to say. It was an amazing day, one of the best in my professiona life… and here’s why:
TOP-NOTCH:
1. The setup was excellent. From the handout, to the signage to the classrooms to the food… it was really well done. I could have easily been lost in that building, never mind Philly, but I was able to get where I needed to go.
2. The schedule, especially the mobile version. Given the transient nature of the conference, it was great to be able to have a mobile quick ref (kudos to @caverill)
3. The shirts - amazing design. Love them. Will wear it proudly.
4. UArts was a top-notch facility. It was great to have so many different ways to run a session - using slides and projector, a whiteboard, or just sitting and talking.
5. The people. I came to BarCamp Philly to meet a bunch of awesome people from Philly, and I was not at all disappointed. It’s my hope that we can see all of you in NYC soon!

Yeah, Barcamp rocked! I didn’t have anything negative to say, other than the “wireless deadzone” on the 13th floor. Maybe I should have known better to try to attend a meeting on such a universally unlucky floor.
Another thing that maybe would have been cool would have been to have one big meeting room with an opening meeting, basically with just everyone introducing themselves. Would have helped to get to know everyone right off the bat. (Then again I got there late so it wouldn’t have mattered for me, lol)
Only other thing I would have liked to have seen would have been some sessions providing resources for new webmasters.
Positive things:
1.UArts kicked @ss! Wish I had the money to go to school there, lol.
2. Cupcakes! Wish I didn’t eat so much chinese food at lunch though cause I didn’t have much room left for them.
3. T-Shirts rocked.
4. People very friendly and helpful. Even in open discussions I didn’t hear a single argument. (Something very rare considering most attendees were bloggers, ie very opinionated people)
5. Can’t wait for next time!

Originally we were trying to find a larger meeting space for a common area and networking. Unfortunately scheduling conflicts at UArts prevented us from getting one so we had to make do. All things considered I think it worked out pretty well, though.

The event was awesome start to finish. I’d second any of the positive points made already in the comments.
The only negative I saw, and this is a very minor one, was having the schedule board in the hallway. It made it a little tough to access/converge around.
I had a great time. I agree with the board placement note from Dave. How can people help plan the next one?
I don’t think I have any complaints (except I agree about moving the schedule where it was more physically accessible)! This was the right venue, right group of people, right amount of cupcakes, and so on. Thanks for putting in the hardwork — it really paid off!
